Jam making is easy and it is a great way to preserve your fruit for the winter. To make amazing homemade jam, you really just need six basic ingredients:sugar, lemon juice, water, pectin (starch), fruit, and jars. Jam is a sweet preserve made from fruit and sugar. It is a kind of preserve, but it can also be referred to as a jellies. When someone refers to jam, they are most likely referring to a type of jam that has fruit in it. These preserves are often eaten on toast or biscuits with butter. Place lids on jars and screw on bands tightly. Place in boiling water bath for 10 minutes. Once your mixed fruit jam has cooled completely, place it in the fridge for two hours to set before storing it in an airtight container or freezer bag for up to six months. You'll want to choose firm, ripe fruits that have not been damaged by insects or mold. For example, strawberries are great choices because their skins are thin enough to easily remove without getting any of the flesh inside of the fruit and they don't spoil quickly like raspberries might do. You'll also want to choose fruits that have seeds so the seeds don't ruin your sweet mix when you're eating it from the jar. Some fruits, such as oranges and lemons, contain membranes along their peels which can cause problems for jam-making if left on when cooking them down into puree form. To prevent this problem you should use these fruits as soon as possible after purchasing them so you can remove them before cooking them down into puree form.
